The history of Sensoji Temple(Asakusa Shrine) spans more than 1,300 years since the beginning of the 7th century.

According to legend, two brothers named Hinokuma Hamanari and Hinokuma Takenari were fishing in the nearby Sumida River when they caught a small statue of the Buddhist goddess Kannon in their nets. The brothers recognized the statue as a sign from the gods and immediately took it to their village chief, who recognized the statue's religious significance and built a small temple to house it.

During the Edo period (1603-1868), the temple became one of the most important centers for worship in Tokyo, and a bustling market developed around it, known as Nakamise-dori. Nakamise-dori is a long street leading up to the temple entrance that is lined with shops selling traditional Japanese goods such as souvenirs, sweets, and street food.

Kaminarimon Gate or Thunder Gate:-

The temple has a number of buildings and structures, including a five-story pagoda, the main hall, and the Kaminarimon Gate. The Kaminarimon Gate, or Thunder Gate, is the temple's main entrance and is famous for its massive red lantern, which hangs in the center of the gate. The lantern is over three meters tall and weighs over 600 kilograms. It was originally donated to the temple by a wealthy merchant in the 18th century.

The main hall of the temple, also known as the Hondo, is a beautiful building that houses the statue of Kannon that was originally found by the Hinokuma brothers. The statue is not usually on display, but it is brought out for public viewing every 33 years during a special ceremony known as the Asakusa Kannon-ura.

The five-story pagoda is another popular attraction at the temple. It was built in 1973.The pagoda is over 50 meters tall and provides a beautiful view of the surrounding area.Sensoji Temple has played an important role in Japanese history and culture.
